Face it my fellow American's we are vastly ignorant of the rest of the world. What little we do know comes from the news or some fictional movie.
Personally I like Omar Sharif. His voice is so soft yet firm. He did great for the narration of 10,000 BC and his part in 13th Warrior was great. I do find it rather funny that an actor would make the statement "They are ignorant", but he's 100% correct. In the classical use of the term "ignorant" you my fellow Americans (and even I to some extent) are ignorant of the workings of the middle east. Between speech patterns (I have to admit their way of 'dissing' someone is quite colorful) and the fact that the different sects in the middle east are all very similar yet distinct and fiercely protected makes working with them a little difficult. And I think they like it that way.
In my experience they typical Middle eastern person loves to have strangers for company. They are hospitable people and can be rather friendly just as long as they think you are not planning on staying and trying to control their country. I cannot fault them for that. In truth I agree. The Middle east is their own worst enemy. As long as you don't let them get to see "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" (Arab proverb) then you can leave them to battling and warring among themselves.
They do not have a culture that fosters our so called "Democracy". And frankly I don't blame them for not wanting it. Why do we have this insatiable urge to have "Democracy" everywhere? It's a crock in the first place. I'd prefer we went back to our limited government "Republic" but that would require a less ignorant populace that does not rely on the government tit.
We have given away our own freedom's in the pursuit of some ill conceived security and wonder why other parts of the world do not want our glorious and wonderful "Democracy"!?
In all truth I don't want it either.
