WTF, Papermills getting full credits...

From The Nation: "Pulp Nonfiction" some smart person found a way to take a cost effective and energy efficient process and profit from it. Ed Brayton pointed it out in his blog entry "Corporate Welfare On Display" that this is a law of unintended consequences. However he stops short of going on to say that this is what happens all the time.

There are two things that occur when the government makes laws for economic process.
  1. It creates the corruption and exploitation
  2. It removes liberty.
In this case we see the exploitation angle. The government tried to pick a winner (in this case alternative fuels) and essentially started throwing money at something that is already cost effective. It doesn't need the help but you have to applaud the guy who thought of adding the diesel to get the tax credit. From the business perspective its "Get what I can so i can deal with what the government will inevitably take away."

I think I'm going to get some gas for my lawn mower and add some corn oil now...
