Charlotte Craig is going for gold representing the US in China this summer. CNN Money has a story of two hopefuls: Carlotte Craig (age 17) and Lou Wei (age 25).

My one hope is that her left arm is not always in that position when she kicks. I don't remember it this is just style, bad form, or just trying to keep balance but I was always taught it was bad to leave you arm down like that. If the person gets inside you kick you have limited your ability to guard yourself. Arm should to tucked in so it can block to either side of the leg or protect your ribs.
Here is the correct way as I've always been taught.

Notice how Lou has her arm in a guarding position on her kicking leg. Though I hate to say it Lou Wei has the better kicking technique.
I learned that the hard way as my leg slid under a taller person kick. He nailed me in the ribs with a solid round house. My only saving grace was the chest gear. I wish the ladies the best and hope to see a good match.
